First I'd like to say thanks for your input!

I got this EK with an issue envelope from Walter & Henlein, but I was not sure if it matches to the cross.

I tried to find out about the black spots, but I'm not sure. The magnefying glass does not really help. In some places, the silvering looks thicker than the black colour in some places it looks thinner.

I made two scans - maybe they can help.

For me the closeup confirms :The 'run' pattern does show hastely applied thin lacquer .

I'm not arguing the fact that this effect is caused by lacquer, but how could they apply the lacquer so carelessly? You would think the personnel apply the lacquer would have done a better job and applied it over the beading more uniformly. Are you certain of this 'rotating' application?

Yes Robert , it looks 'messy' and so does the S&L KC that has the same dark spots .All 3 samples shown show the same effect .
Lets not forget , we are seeing something they could not know that would happen . The applied thin lacquer is a thinned down product that is more or less clear a clear liquid , they did not see the missed spots ! 42 /43 was the greatest demand and very rushed produced awards .
