    Basic EK questions

Recently I've seen pictures of 2 EK's that prompted some questions. I am a novice in this area, so any help is appreciated.

    1) I saw a round 3 EK2. All looked correct; appeared to be 3 piece construction etc. However, the ribbon ring was split. I've always thought this meant they were no good. Comments please?

    2) Saw an EK1, complete with coke bottle pin on the back. On the front, it had a small "dimple" where a ribbon ring would attach. Comments?

    Harry,

As for the round 3 EK2: I have had several EK2 with split rings that were absolutely correct - no round 3 EK2s, however. I would not assume a cross is bad based on this alone. Pictures would be great.

As for the EK1: I would have to see a picture of the cross. Perhaps an EK1 was made with an EK2 obverse?

      Ek2 Ek1

      Hi Harry,

I totally agree with both replies from Jerry: the feature on the EK2 is not a problem, I have seen a few of that round 3 type of which the ring was not joined and were okay.

The iron cross 1st class however could be another story. This little mark at the top of the front side of which you speek does ring a bell; I have seen it before on a reproduction 1st class cross.

Note: this one does not have a 'coke bottle' pin but still could be the same type.

I have a picture of it somewhere, when I find it I will show it so you can compare it if you like. What I do know of this one is that it had a strange thin 1939 font and they forgot to spray the corners of the core (sprayed after it was assembled) and it also had a rough finish to the back. Does that fit yours?

Please post detailed pictures if you can.

Great responses guys, thanks. I do not have pictures, as these are not my pieces, just some I ran across awhile back that kind of stuck out.

DJ, you may be right, the EK1 may not have had a coke bottle pin now that I think about it.

            DJ,
I believe that is it! Thanks again.
