    49

I may be wrong about your cross Eric.
If you compare the lettering on my 49 and your 49,
    you can see a difference.
Namely the height of my dates 1813 and 1939, which are noticably lower.
I tend to think that yours is the genuine 49.

    Anyone?

After taking some more time to examine my ek2 49, I noticed that the outer silver frame has a kind of gold or copper coloring. I was wondering if this was present on the other ek's or if this coloring has another meaning???? Thoughts and opinions???? Still looking for another picture of a ek2 49 thats different from the ones posted.
      Thanks,
      Eric

Well, it's not what your gonna want to hear, but that odd color is typical of the type of metal used in the repros I mentioned earlier which have a corresponding beading pattern to the "49" fake I had. This same strange color is mentioned by S. Previtera in The Iron Time in his description of an "L11" marked EK 1 (on page 249) which has since been proven bad. This EK is identical to the fake "L11" I have, which I attribute to Floch. (It is certainly not a good Deumer EK.)

          George,

I was hoping for good news. This is not what I wanted to hear. It looks as if my ek2 49 is a fake. However, I still would like to see a good ek2 marked 49. Doesn't anyone have one???????? Someone must know someone who has one???? Also, George are you going to the "Great Escape" in Sacramento at the end of December? If so, maybe we can compare ek's again.
          Thanks for all the info,
          Eric

P.S. This was one of my first Ebay purchases long ago. What can you do but learn!

              Robert,

I think that your EK is the same fake.

Eric, Yes I do plan to make the Great Escape Show. I'm going to try and get there early (around 9:30) and probably be there for a couple of hours. It's a fairly small show, but worth going to. (Hey, I think they all are!) Last year I got an excellent Fo U-Boot Badge for $200!
Why don't you bring your "49" and we can compare it to my Flochs?

Back to the topic at hand........

Would anyone like to comment on the points I made?

You mean about Floch? I don't know. But I have seen two EK 1s attributed to him which had identical frames, but different cores.
I don't know where he got his stuff.

                        "49" EK2

                        Gents,

I am into to this one a little late, but here is my "49" for comparison.
I think mine looks different from the ones posted. The swaz is slightly raised above the beading and the dates are very well defined-especially the 3s and the "tails" of each number. The beading isn't the prettiest, but several makers have lower quality beading-"7" comes to mind. Let me know what you think and I hope this helps.

Yes George that's right, can we match the cores he uses to any original EK's for example? I have looked though my files and cannot find anything that matches. What I am getting at is maybe Floch bought out some firms dies and tooling and churned out his own pieces from them.

I thought this thread should come back for a couple of reasons. First, maybe someone now has some new info. Second, I am still waiting like other members for a EKII marked 49 that is different. Finally, I have a new scan of two EKII's. From left to right they are marked 49 then 122. I mentioned that my cross had a kind of gold color, but I just got this EKII marked 122 from Detlev and it has a lot more gold color than the EKII marked 49???? Also, I know that someone will comment on the beading again and I ask you, Do you have something different from these 49 EKII's????? I know that there are a lot of copies out there, but it does not seem like there are to many 49 EKII's out there, fake or real that are marked??? Yes, I do know there were well over a million EK's made. Comments anyone???

I have an EK 2 marked "122" also (below), but it is not noticably more gold than any of my others.

My belief that the "49s" we are seeing are reproductions is not based solely on their color, but mostly due to the fact that their die characteristics match those of a known fake ("L11") EK 1 exactly.
