    Japanese Iron Cross

I've heard that the Japanese produced Iron Crosses for German sailors (U-Boat crews?) during WW2 and that they are extremely rare.

Did they produce them, and if so does anybody have one?

If they are genuine how did the construction and design differ from German produced crosses? Did they base them on any particular manufacturer?

Were any dies ever recovered or are there any known vet bringbacks?

    Just curious.

    Regards,
    Steve

    Hi Dolph,

they do exsist, but are extremely rare.

Since they were jeweller-made, no dies were used.
So far I have only seen 2 or 3 in pictures, never handeled one.

You can find some pictures on the forum when you use the "search" button in the righthand upper corner

    Best regards,
    Ben

Thanks for the replies, I guess that due to the extremely low number made Jeweller-made makes a lot of sense. Did the Japanese produce any other German awards that you know of i.e Knights Cross, U-boat badge?

              Fascinating subject,
              Regards,

                Dear Steve,

Yes the Japanese produced some other TR awards for Navy personnel who were passing thru Japan. The Auxillary Cruiser badge was one such badge, and seems to be the one "most seen" of the Japanese manufactured awards. I believe there was at least one other badge produced in Japan. If you do a search on the forum you should see one; I also believe one of the German dealers had one for sale awhile ago.
