              Hello there,

A fine badge, even with those dots.

A nice original 'dotted 20' with nice patina.

Fast question for the DKIG experts.I was in the opinion that the dotted Dk's were not period pieces. The reason i ask is i posted one awhile back and most agreed that being that it had the dotted date it was not a ww2 made item.So are they now known to be period pieces or is the jury still out.I would be interested in the decision on these. Thanks Jay

                        Jay,

I got yelled at for having that same opinion a while back:

                        I had to change it!

Jay ... some have tried as they might (and will probably make it their life-long goal) to prove these are not Pre-45. In fact Mr. Deep Pockets went to the extent of getting one tested. What cameback disappointed the crap out of him ... but alas ... nothing showed any proof one way or the other.

However, like they say, if you are spending serious money on these ... go with the 100% testbook examples. One day I'm sure there will be 100% proof. Some are going to be elated.

Here's something to ponder: I just realized some days ago during the research for the book "The German Cross" that some Zimmermann and Klein have a magnetic disk behind the swastika. To my surprise I learned that this was not yet known (Sure, some clever guys will claim they knew all along...- the more so that it is always mentioned in the literature hat all parts (other than the backplate) are Tombak!). This further cements the connection between Zimmermann and Klein (since it would be very unlikely that this is a coincidence.

Now, the backplate of this dotted cross is also magnetic and I would think that a fake would not really copy that very, very unique feature, or?

The investigation continues ...just another important puzzle piece!
