    EK I U-Boot

Dear Gentleman, I would appreciate any comment to this IC. It came along with a U-Boat-Group. It was told that this was a "Frontfertigung".
    Thank you. K.

              Hi Konrad,

pieces like this are always hard to judge according originality or value.
I would only purchase such a piece with rock-solid provenance.

              Best regards,
              Ben

Ive never seen an EK1 like this, looks rather suspect, like no other maker that I know of

                  Hello Konrad,
As Ben has mentioned cast iron proof would be needed, for example, a period photo of the EK being worn. That said however it does look rough enough to be believable as a field made EK1. If the price was right (cheap!) I personally would take a punt on it.

                    Interesting piece .
Is it magnetic and ground out of 1 piece of metal ??
Supposed to be Field made temporary award .
Why the date is so slanted ???

Interesting??? Adrian's "Cheap" advice should be heeded! See the link I provide for another of these so called "Feild Made" EK's...Item #1735.

Doug, If indeed a true Field made piece, Than the slanted date would not be too questionable, Again see the link for a very poor looking piece that went for more $$$.$$ than I would have taken a chance on.

the one on the link that you posted looks like crap to me, id ont think that they ever would field award such a piece, particular no one in a infantry group.

The cross shown in the first post is crude but correct, for me it stands a chance of beeing real. Its known and documented that pieces like this were manufactured on subs, but like you mention with out a rock solid provenance its hard to prove anything.

Thank you Gentleman for your comments on this cross, I really appreciate this. Its non-magnetic. A quick search to the name scratched on the backside gave following information Johann Ideler born 30.4.1915 died 23.4.1945 on U 183 in the Java Sea. I know that this is a far shot, but maybe anybody has a foto of this man. Best Regards and Thank you. K.

                            Hello there,

What else came in the grouping and were the other awards (if any) authentic?
