    Interesting EK2 Ribbon

    Gents,

I am looking for any comments on the piece of ribbon. It is the narrower type, 25mm, and only about 6" in length. The tag and ribbon are both good-to-go as per blacklight test. The staple doesn't make much sense to me... why put holes in the ribbon? There is nothing on the back of the tag. Let me know what you guys think.

A sloppy identification tag affixed by a doltish post-war vendor?

      George,

Thanks for the input. So you are saying the tag, at least, is more than likely postwar? Have you seen an authentic setup that looks like this? Was ribbon sold in this manner, i.e. with this type of a tag?

I've never seen an authentic set-up like that. Other than that, I was just throwing out a guess.

I have some repo ribbon resembling the weave of this ribbon which is very crude but alas the the most recent 'entrant'! I'd be glad to cut off a couple of inches and send it out and help you make a decision as to originality. However, imho (since when! ) it is a fake.
          Regards,

            Kurt,

I would appreciate a couple inches if you could spare them for comparison. I will PM you. From feel alone the ribbon is convincing. Does your repro stuff pass the old black light test?

I just compared it to a narrow ribbon on an EK of mine. The red stripe is wider on the example with the tag and the black outer stripes are more narrow as well.

Just think about it, why would one have to put a sticker to a ribbon that is almost as long as the ribbon itself and almost as expensive in production as the ribbon itself?
And why this exact description for a piece of ribbon where everybody from grandpa to little child knew to which decoration it belonged to?

Or was the LDO shop clerk suffering from Amnesia?

              Cheers, Frank

                Hmmm....

The lettering on that label looks pretty close to the lettering on an original EK2 packet I have. It differs slightly, in that the period after the "II" runs into the last "I" on the ribbon label.

Here is the lettering on my EK2 packet:

Frank - Couldn't agree with you more and I like the humor. I know the black light test is not the be-all, end-all of tests for authenticity. Are there any postwar examples of ribbon that do not glow?

John - Is this lettering off one of the smaller packets? I have one as well and they are damn near identical. They are the same hieght and width. Here is a scan of them together - they match almost exactly. I would say the ink bled a bit more on the tag than on the packet, hence the softer letters and period touching the II.

                    Here's a non-glowing 25mm ribbon on a 1957 EK 2 that I got in Germany in 1972.
