    LDO and Zimmerman EK1 Question

I found a beautiful square pushbutton flat top cased ek1 set today. No ornamental ek outline on top of case nor designation on the bottom. LDO logo on satin of inner lid and completely original Zimmerman EK1 20mmd on pin. Is this pair possible?

    Thanks
    Dion

One could wonder why an EK marked with the PKZ number for officially awarded pieces was in a case indicating retail distribution, but I suppose that anything is possible....

I guess it could happen George, but it is the first time I have seen it. It really spooked me I guess to see something "different" when all is pretty standard lately. I love those LDO flat top cases though! I think I will get it.

          Hello

As George says, anything is possible and it may have been a genuine mix up at the factory or where ever. Equally, it could be two perfectly good, original war time items put together after the war.

Either way, if they are original war time pieces, then they are what they are !!

          Regards
          David

If I were a betting man ... I'd say mated after the fact. Too common practice these days by people that don't understand the LDO process.

Just like PKZ numbered EK2's found in those EK2 LDO cases

Hes a good source of mine here in Cologne, Houseclearer guy. He just looked at my blankly when I said no LDO number, one of those who doesnt care or want to be bothered

Iam picking it up due to that it is a beautiful early LDO case and a fine MMd 20 Zimm. Even if mated the 2 pieces are well worth it..Iam getting way to picky on stuff.

Darrel, I wont touch any of those cased EK2s unless it is a private buy, at shows forget it!

Well, couldn't the cross have been the soldier's actual award piece? Then he picked up a replacement with a case? They then got mixed up over the years?

                              LDO Case

                              Hello Dion;

I think all would agree the cross and case are authentic..the question is are both original to each other, and I feel the question is somewhat irrelevant. I believe Steve's point could very well be somewhat on the right track.

I can say that I have an L/50 EK1 in the exact type of case with pebbled "lederimitat" covering. The case as a collectible alone is nice, and the cross an extra in my book! Nice unique find..!!
