Excellent thread! This cross looks very nasty It can easily convince a young collector-who has not done their homework properly-that it is a real rare stone-mint EK resulting in wasting of money!
    Keep it up!

Do you think it will be harder to fake the EK1's? Will the pin set up make it a bigger challenge?

Weren't high quality fakes inevitable, with the price of many (most?) EK2's now over $100 and the prices on EK1's usually now over $225 and showing no sign of dropping?

How long before its DKIG's and DKIS's?
You got it! Judge by your self. I picked up this one on yesterday to a local show in Italy.
It looks like a nice, worn, unmagnetic and marked L/18

Then you start thinking about it... hummm the hardware, it really doens't match the maker features, it reminds me of a W&L?
Oh yes it must be an unknow variant! ahahah

            Wowww...
If this one is a Fake, it's a terrible Fake & not a new one ...
I have one similar & you will see others in this tread :
            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=418209

I hands no reason to think this is a Fake, but the similarities with the "L/18 EK2 Fake" ....
Is yours non Magnetic too ?

Hello Michael, you are right, this is a tricky one... but the similareties with the mistakes on the fake L/18 ekII posted by Grueni are quite evident.
I confirm you the cross is not magnetic. Does yours has the same problems on the frame?

                ciao Stefano,
that flaw is really similar with those EKIIs but I have difficult to say "it 's fake".
At the moment I 'm more for original than fake, I would like to see it next Saturday in my hands

Really interesting find. I'm curious to know what develops with this one, but for now I am convinced it is a fake. I don't know any Mayer EKs with that S&L style core, and the beading problems are damning.
                    Best regards,
                    Streptile

This EXACT pin set up is very common on L/18 KM Badges, then until here the set up didn't give me any reason to doubt,
but the flaws similarities, give me some doubts too...

I will post best pics of mines...
