        Costs

        Tang Si,

The actual cost of EKs through commercial outlets varied with the quality desired. The Steinhauer & Luck 50th anniversary catalog shows a tiered pricing schedual according to the quality of materials used and special options such as screwbacks.

          Prices in Spring 1941 (uncased)

          EK2 RM4.90
          EK2 Miniature RM0.60
          EK2 Spange RM0.96
          EK2 Spange Miniature RM0.50
          EK1 Pinback RM7
          EK1 Screwback RM9
          EK1 Miniature RM0.60
          EK1 Spange RM2.90
          EK1 Spange Screwback RM3.90
          EK1/Spange Combo RM12
          Knights Cross (cased) RM34.50
          Oakleaves (cased) RM13.80

Prices had fallen by 1944, EK2 was RM3.80, EK1 Screwback RM8.20. By the time the LDO was formed, prices were controlled and set by them.

              Tang Si,
I have an screwback EK 1 by Alois Rettenmaier, and the bottom of the case has a price label marked "8,-". This is a late war EK 1 as LDO guarentee certificate is dated "13.X1.44". I also have a KVK with swords by Deumer of which the outer carton is marked in pencil "4,40"
