Dear All,
Despite having received an order confirmation from the dealer for the cross I posted in http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=272295&page=2 it was sold to another forum member ... (???) I don't quite know how that happened but ... there we go it did. Since I am the owner of an empty Deumer case, my quest for an L/11 mm EK1 has taken another blow. Today, I have received this example from a well known UK dealer.
The cross was sold as a slightly vaulted L11 but the colouration of the frame and other characteristics, most notably echo another (non related EK1) I bought some time ago and returned to another dealer immediately, such as the detail of where the frame meets the core. The definition of the date and swastika are poor but I can't tell whether this is because of a heavy re-paint job, the date being offset with the tip of the "1" almost underneath the frame but I have seen this on other L/11 examples. The core has been repainted (very difficult to catch in photographs), the overspray of whichcn be seen on the inside of the beading and 2 different shades of black paint are noticable. I cannot open the pin as it will not "come around" of the catch. I'm so disappointed
The cross has been out of the jiffy bag for 30 minutes, and I'm thinking about just resealing it and sending it straight awat back to the dealer ... I'm so disappointed how hard is it to find a decent L/11 ?
Here are some pictures for your information ... what do you think ?
A very depressed Gareth
