    Screwback KVK1 w/o swords?

    Hi Guys,
Just curious is this a good'un? I thought it strange that they would have made a screwback for a non-combatants award. After doing some quick research the maker marked seems good.
Please let me know what ya'll think.
    Sincerely Andy B.

Did Souval mount the retaining pins on their with/swords version in the same manner, with the little plate? They didn't on their screwback EK 1s.
(And as an aside, the only other screwback KVK 1 without swords that I've ever seen is this unmarked example.)

Thanks George for responding. Is is possible the retaining disc was put on the cross after the original one was lost? Also, what is your overall opinion of the cross?

Yes, afaik Souval used the pin with the little round plate on the swords version as well. Everybody else had the small sharp pin like yours.

About the cross itself it's rare to see a cross wo swords with a screwback. If they really existed or what, don't know.

If the disc was added later on as a replacement, don't think so. It matches the swords version. It also doesn't look like it was instead of a pin, catch etc.

I have two in my files, the one George shows and the one below. Must admit I'm not sure what to make of the latter though. Weird combo, Souval retaining pin, unmarked disc and a imo added L12 Juncker mm to spice it up a little.

I'm not a seasoned vet, but I only thought the KVK1 with swords came with a screwback. Souval EKs are often suspect of being postwar, at least some of them, and some collectors steer clear. Is this the case here, or has this been modified later? I'm not convinced. Two controversial ones here, Souval and the ever added L/12 mark.

Well guys. It should be arriving soon. When it does I'll get measurements/weights and better pics. We'll see what opinions are after that. Its still an interesting piece...good or bad.
