Not an exact match though so that makes me wonder.

Yes, there are many similarities, leaving me guessing also.

The hardware? All different. Bob's spanges, Mathias's spange...different.

The seller got the clasp from a collector too. He told him that Mr. Weitze saw the clasp and he said that this one is a very rare type and original.

I will make some better pics in a couple of minutes.

With no example with provenance, and nothing else to really go on, you're on your own here. I must admit those pics make it look very believeable. I kinda like the double leaved wreath too
I wish we all knew more about these, and I never saw one until last year... now I've seen 3 with different hardware

Hi,

I must admit that until now I only studied the Mayer and the Deumer. A few other patterns -most early- I know from pictures that Robert posted. But this spange is so different, so symplistic in its design when we compare it with the others. In the world of GAB's there are many designs, some are nice and some are rather horrible. But if I'm right EK1 clasps have a short maker list. That's just my opinion.

someone needs to actually send him one of this style, and pay for his authentication
