Gollob's Diamonds First and Second Styles

I have just finished reading Dietrich Maerz' great book on the KC but am intrigued with a statement made in reference to the first style diamonds to the KC. In the book he states that only Moelders and Galland received a first style award. But clearly in photos, notably those taken by Walter Frentz in color at the FHQ, Gollob can be clearly seen wearing a first style diamonds device and then later during the war, the second style version. Was Dietrich's statement in error? Or is there another smaller second style version of the diamonds device? Thanks.

    Hi Mark,

I have to admit that in regards to who got what Diamonds I fell back on other sources since how could I research that in 2006? The book is more about the awards itself.

Here is my source: Deutsches Ordensmuseum Lüdenscheid, Das Eiserne Kreuz 1813 - 1939.

It clearly states on page 199 that starting wirh Nr. 3 (Gollob) the 2nd Type was issued. I also discussed this with a gentleman in germany who is considered the "Diamanten"-Guru. He also concurred.

But I'm not saying that this is all right. I'm only saying that those were my sources.

Can you post a picture of Gollob with the Type 1 (or whatever non-Type 2)?
