Cased EK1, poinions and information please

Just picked this up.
Case has rounded corners and is domed.







The tip of the pin has been rolled.



The cross is marked L59 with the elongated "S" horizontal to the number. On the underside of the pin is an odd mark, it is either an "8" or two dots stamped very close together.

Thanks Xerox. I checked the cross very closely, there is no indication it has been repainted. And given the source I doubt it very much. On the cross face under the paint I can see what I call worm tracks (I know it's caused by rust).

What is the significance of the "S?"
