Grand Cross 1939 in Blue Case

Hello All,

This Grand Cross is in a case identical to the RK KVK cases down to every detail: hinges, catches, covering, all inner materials. Only difference being the recess is the shape of the cross thats in it.
The cross is 3 part construction, ferrous core, with a RK width ribbon. Been a sleeper for decades; never been in the hands of a collector or dealer. Sorry I have only taken one pic. for now, but what are first opinions of this piece?

have to agree high quality post war for the museum market or at least that is what I was lead to believe.

The CWM had two of these at one time and that was the story of them when I had a peek at them back in 83.

What date would one attribute these to if that is the case?
Bearing in mind the presentation case precisely matching the accepted original RK KVK cases?
The ribbon checks out to be original RK ribbon also.

It appears to be a reproduction (SOUVAL) made solely for the collector market in the 60's.

Let's have a look at the ribbon and loop AND to be absolutely sure a direct shot of the cross front and back.

Is it just an illusion caused by the angle or is the swastika a little high for a Souval?

Likely the angle...look at the '3' in 1939! My money is on SOUVAL

I need new glasses! I was concentrating on the swastika.
The "1", "3" and second "9" appear to be in alignment, but the first "9"
appears to be "up"....????

It looks like a post war Souval i have one of these and i beleve several dealers sold these in the uk in the 1970s as good copys mine came from a london dealer Chris Farlowe

The swas. is high., much more so than on the Souval EK1s. The Swas also has sloping angle sides to it.
The outer corners though do have a similarity to the ones on the Souval EK1 I have.
No one is claiming that this is an original Grand Cross, I am more intrigued by the case (which I could do with showing pics. of!).
It has been compared sat side by side to an original case for the RK KVK. Believe me, there are NO differences, excepting the recessed shaped for the different cross housed in it. Whatever your different opinions on the blacklight test are - it does not glow. They even smelt the same.
Could this mean that some cases paired with RK KVK are perhaps post-war, or is this GK case simply made up from wartime stocks? Who knows? Just interested in seeing any other cross/case combos as this one.
Whatever the verdicts, this is a well made, quality piece just wanting to know its date of conception and place of birth a little more accurately.
