    1939 Spange to EK 2

Hi guys, I'm not a cross collector so I need some help. A friend has two new-in-the-envelope 1914 Spanges 2nd class, early quality with beautiful silver frosting. They are mint, brought back in 1945 and sold at auction after his widow died. What would be a fair price to ask on these, assuming originality? I don't have photos so I know it's hard to say, but a ballpark would be great. Thanks for any input!

You say early does that mean First type with sclooped date box? Are they Maker Marked. Is there any marking on the packets? That could make a big difference in price.

I'm not sure about the date box. I didn't see any maker's marks, and I didn't look at the back of the envelopes! Like I said, I'm not a badge collector. The pins on the eagles were unbent and the frosting was pretty equal on the rear as it was on the front. He was thinking about $150 each for them.

Your friend is giving you a very, very good deal at that price. If it was me in your place I would buy them... with if they are fake I can return them. If he will not do that you are taking a gamble. The story sounds good, you know your friend. Try looking on this site at spanges and don't forget to look in the fake section too. Post pictures when you get them.

Here's an example of what he has to sell, and the only thing I could afford to get today! Ring marked 56, and the envelope is marked on the back to "Robert Hauschild Pforzheim". All the medals he has are in the envelope (1939 EK2s, KVK2s with and without swords, Ost Front, and the 1939 EK2 Spanges).

Nice picture, KVK looks good. The EK2 Spanges at $150 each is about what an EK2 with packet would cost with both in mint condition. So you do see the Spanges are very underpriced. I should think $300+ each. Packets for EK2 Spanges are not very common and would be a real find.

            Good Luck with it,
            Dennis

if he was 'thinking $150' each, get them for that. But make sure, as Dennis says, you can return them if they are fake...
Show pics here as soon as you can
