How to split apart a cross

If someone wants to repaint, or remove large rust attacks on the core.. what would be the best way to split the cross apart? both EK1 and EK2.

I'm not going to do it, but I would loved to hear if there might be a clever method IF anyone wants to repair a core or even repaint...

DONT split it up.
You will only get a piece that will never look new or something like that.
You will never be satisfyed.

Since the two rims are soldered together, I would guess that you could apply heat through a soldering iron to break the cross apart working from one side to the other. I also would not recommend taking a cross apart but that is how I would do it. Getting it back together is another story.

Our very own Dr. Jimmy should weigh in on this matter.....I'm guessing that most of you have never seen the stellar work he has done in disassembling and reassembling an EK....

it sounds almost impossible without wrecking the cross more. but are there methods to remove rust from the core thats under the beading or at other difficult places?
I don't have any rusted ek's but rust is the nightmare

You have a non existing problem then. Make sure you store your crosses at a dry location away from sticky fingers. Never ever tamper with the crosses. They will only appear worse.
