Has this Iron Cross for years but wonder about it

I got this from my dad who got it on ebay. Dad gave it to me but paid 250.00 USD for it from some collector who had 300 of them in his closet.


I am told it's an original but want to run this by some of you. What is the deal with the Magnetic core? Or is it non magnetic?

I did not know what this meant so I put the cross on some metal, it does not stick to anything. When I put a Magnet on the cross it's sticks like mad.

It's an original EK II.
Is there a maker's mark on the ribbon ring?

When they say it's magnetic, they mean the core is made of a magnetic material, in this case iron, hence the name and the very essence of the award. Thus the core will be attracted to a magnet. I was confused by this when I started collecting too.

In the first photo it looks like there's something stamped in the ring that the ribbon goes through. Carefully pull back the ribbon and look on that ring for a hallmark. If there is a number, that's where it gets interesting and that is where it gets value...

Whoa! This EK2 cost your dad $250!? I would say he paid about double what he should have, especially if the seller allegedly had 300 of them.

I would never pay more than $150 for any WWII EK2.
