    Deschler German Cross

    Gents,

There appears to be a new 'twist' to the Deschler hoard. At the Kassel show this weekend, Andre Husken had a five-by-eight card advertising a number of examples from the Deschler Hoard. KVKs, Mutter Kreuz, with or without case/carton etc.

The new twist: 300 Deschler German Crosses in Gold with 'carton' for sale at EURO 2500 a piece! Unfortunately, when I asked Andre about them, he said they were all sold.

The interesting thing about this story is that no one at the show them before they were 'all sold'.

    Any thoughts or observations?

    Hello

Without seeing one of these 300 or so DKs I couldn't comment on their originality. I wonder if any member of this forum has one and could post photos?

As regards the Deschler hoard, I have heard two stories on this. One is that they came from an old uniform outfitters in the former Eastern Germany and had been hidden away at the end of the war due to the Russina presence. The second is that all the KVKs etc that have recently started appearing on the market were found in the attic at the Deschler factory during some work on the building. Does anyone know the correct story?

    Regards

The only story I have come across is the Deschler Attic one , where renovations were being done , as a small corner of the attic was being expanded and workers came across something like 3 or 4 boxes of different sizes that had 2 or 3 different awards in them , mostly boxed and some tissue wrapped ??? I have seen a few pictures of them even ,the group of boxes still in the attic in the middle of the room. They appeared to be unopened and nothing else in the room . The pictures were not very good . Don't know about the pictures, looked staged ?
As I recall there was small door or opening in the top left corner , and came across them about a month ago .

I find it VERY hard to believe that these boxes have been there for over 60 years without anyone ever found them

        How is it even possible?

I for one would like to see a cartoned DKG, trying to think if I have ever seen a cartoned DKG/DKS other than a postal carton.

            Story

First of all, it is quite possible for such a hord of medals to be found in Germany. I have had several instances in my home town where historically significant items of local manufacturers have been found at their previous location during a renovation. Some of these were items that dated over 100 years earlier in original cartons and were in immaculate conditon, so this story is to be deemed a posibility.
Next, IF 300 German Crosses appeared on our market and were sold in this short of a period, we all would have heard about it. With a quantity this large, no doubt that some of the buyers would have been members here and would have posted pictures immediately.
Collectors like show and tell, so some buyer would have made it known by now. So this part of the story is not making any sense to me.

Yes , hard to believe ! Even if the small section was boarded shut all these years .
Just think: No heat , constant temperature changes and cardboard and moisture !
One would think : Card board would have soaked up and retained moisture , so any tape would have lasted a few years the most and boxes would have 'puffed out ' , and molded . Late war materials were poor to start with. Awards would have some trace of rust or corrosion spots on them and beading discolored . No back to lining imprint or discoloration spotting ?
They are described as 'crisp mint' as like only hours old ?
Yes , hard to believe !

The Deschler attic story doesn't hold water.

The current Deschler factory is not the same as the wartime one.

But-does the current factory not produce medals as well as coins?

It produces various sporting medals and badges, association memorabilia, etc.

300 brand new DKiG's, all sold without a single photograph of the hoard, with no one on here getting one= BIG LIE!

When they moved their factory, maybe they moved the awards aswell and had no idea what was in those boxes
