I have a similar 'museum grade' cross like yours, only hollow-back, I have on display in my war room. It's stamped 'Deschler & Sohn'. An eBay piece, representative of the 'Order of the Iron Cross, 1914' I believe.

This award was only awarded once and to Hindenburg in 1918.

And in The Iron Cross by Gordon Williamson it says that he had 2 of them but both of them found their way somewhere to the east.

It also says that several museum copys where made and they occasionally appear
