While looking through Dietrichs book, on page 72 I reexamined the rear paint finish of my 800 4. I had noticed the wear to the paint there before but did not know what too attribute it too. My cross is not what I would consider mint so I was not surprised. I thought I would bring it too the forums attention in order too contribute too the knowledge base on these crosses. Under a loop the paint has an almost silvery look too the grains which are the high points above the painted surface. I believe this shows a limited wear with an Army top tunic botton as Dietrich observes on page 72. Athough I cannot say when this wear occured, I tend to think it would be wartime and then the cross was retired with only this small amount of wear. I will try and show it but the pictures do not really bring it out like an in hand evaluation under good light. I hope this may add some small degree of data too this grey area of the S@L RKs/////////////Happy Thanksgiving too all.....Jimmy
