    EK2 MM3 question

This is my first minty cross, even has a bit of frosting; no rust is a new one on me! Anyway, the paint on the core is very matte black, almost flat, with no shine at all; plus it seems to be an almost "powdery" finish, smooth but with a bit of texture. I've never seen a paint finish like that on a cross, but then, I've never had one in condition 9 out of 10 (except for the damn bent ring). Is this normal for #3s? Thanks

    Hi Ausgang!

Deumer like most of the other manufacturers The condition of the black color is good.
To recognize the described characteristics one must have the piece in hands. Pictures are badly for this Problem.
In these pictures the color looks absolutely good. It looks like a beautyiful piece in next to mint condition.

What you wrote seems like a description of a core its color became damp and therefore has a texture such as velvet. Often one can see this phenomenon on cores used with crosses by K&Q. It's the very matte black paint which is susceptible with humidity.
As I already said your cross don't look like it has a problem with the paint.

    Congrad for this nice piece

    Regards
    Andreas

Yes, it's true. My 65 marked K&Q EK2 has a similar type paint finish.

        Hello,

the powdering appeareance of the colour is due to the dehumidify of the thinner. It was in this case varnish.

BTW the colour will get off quite easily when you touch it or it comes in touch with liquid.

        Best Franki
