I would guess from your photos, although dark, your case may be OK. I've lightened them up a little so that others could post comments on it.

Is the back hinge exposed, or is it covered in black paper?

It's covered in black paper, same colour as the box, although it's showing a little wear as the hinge isn't flush with the box, it protrudes ever so slightly.

Out of interest how many EK's and spange do you have?

The hinges on the back of all of my cases aren't nearly as wide as your case's hinge. You may have an earlier case, as the head has a feauture none of mine have - a 'sloped' top on the head, like the 1st pattern cases. This isn't a 1st pattern box. They have rounded corners, but may be a transition box. I personally like the looks of it.
