The cross is good but it makes a guy wonder at what time the swords were removed. Note the light colored "shadows" left on the eagles possibly from the proximity of two metals the birds and the swords.

Hello,

already said by Albert this cross originally was produced with swords. Maybe the Meybauer-factory had just one stamp for spanish crosses at that time and they removed the swords by themselves.

I think we will never know exactly who did it but it is a very nice, original cross.

All the meybauer crosses without sword class I know have such removed swords. It has been period done, may be by the firm for the early ones (those marked with the coat of arms) or by a retailer later (those marked L/13). For the silver class, it could increase the price, but it is not easy to do; for the bronze class , there is no reason except period one to do such a amputation.

I agree, esp. considering the way the swords were cut off. But, still can't explain the "phantom sword shadow" on the eagles...

Nice original SC. One other point I noticed is that swords on this would've been cut off without the center swaz in place as the cuts are behind that disc so makes me believe it was done at the factory or else someone would've ripped that off, too to do it.

I have a mint L/13 SC in bronze without swords in my collection, and guess what? There's no shadows o fany kind behind the eagles. I'll have to work on getting a photo for you all to see.

George, we are not seeing some angle shots. Here, for comparison, another bronze SC with period removed swords. They cut relatively deep into the cross itself and the front disc is quite visible suggesting it was applied after the swords had been removed:

Albert, it's tough to say when the swords on both of these were removed. All I can say is I'm more sure the swords on mine were removed at the factory.

As you can see from the photos of my badge, they were removed before the bronze finished was applied as you can see the same finish where the swords were cut off. They other thing to note is mine has no shadows whatsoever on the back of the eagles. Theis makes sense as I'm guessing Meybauer wouldn't go through the hassle of removing the swords after it was assembled and finished when it would be easier to do it before.

Did you all notice the "13 -" on the back for the price??? It's faint on the left arm upside down.
