I don't know the geographical location of both makers, Wernstein and Hoffstadter... Bonn a. Rhein vs. Jena-Lobstedt. But it looks obvious they shared parts, doesn't it?

Bonn is in the West and Jena in the Eastern Part of Germany, so there's no geographical relationship there, and yes, to me they could indeed be pretty much identical. Just a Hypothesis, though...

I don't know what the case was with other makers' hardware networks. Souval, Juncker.... was it geographical, or simply a market price question (Deumer had cheaper needles than Mayer for example) or another system. After all, we're not talking truck loads of stuff, but merely a box filled with 10.000 catches...

Yes, Darrell, these and the Zimmermanns and Godets too. But for the officers and NCOs who could afford the extra $'s, the SB's were the rage for security in combat wear.
