L/58 SB from the e-stand - my 1st SB

Hi all,

I just received this screwback 'dipping 3' Souval in the mail today and was pleasantly surprised. This is my first SB, and probably not my last. They're very unique. I really like the undisturbed patina on this piece.

Out of curiousity, what's up with the core (if anything)? On the left side of 12 o'clock arm, and upper 3 o'clock, it looks like you can see the edge of the core, to the inner-back of the cross.

Or is it just the camera angle?

Probably a lose core and the circumference flatter rim of the core is showing which is sealed by the frame or the silver frame part is not as flush as should be ?

Actually there is a raised step around the circumferance of the core which is 'locked' tight between the backing plate and the silver rim. I have seen this before on other Souval EKI's. I think this raised step was to center the core inside the frame before soldering the halves together, but this one either got jammed from being loose in the frame (after being assembled), or was put together out of proper alignment. Like I said, I've seen this before, so it is probably a loose core issue rather than the latter. I'm going to leave well enough alone. I like this piece just the way it came!

No, this is my first. What really got me started toward my first piece was seeing LuckyLuudje's L/12-marked SB. That's what I'm really after.

I like those SB's too.
Also nice to see a Souval that not has been cleaned yet.

Missing paint on Souvals I have seen before also.
Not 100% sure what the reason is.
I first thought it was because it was painted after it was put together.
But there aren't any traces visable that would confirm that.

I have it also on my mm98 E2.
It has a very lose core.
I made a picture shifting the core from left to right.

Thanks Luud. That's a shifty looking Souval alright. I really like them. I personally have never seen a 'dipping 3' Souval EKII. I have (4), and they are all thin swastika versions like yours. What's the deal? Did not Souval use the other core in his EKII's?
