Cross in Gold & Silver for your approval

    Hi

Here is a German Cross in Gold stamped 20 on the pin and one in Silver with a large 1 on the pin for your approval.

    Thanks
    Mal

I have only a little basic knowledge about german crosses, but what i know, also from the WAF-German Cross-site, is enough to see that the silver Deschler-1 is not from Deschler and not good. So it would say both are evil fakes.

      Hello

The DKiG from C F Zimmermann, (maker '20'), looks from the photos to be a text book 'lightweight' example.

The Deschler DKiS I'm not sure about. My immediate reaction was that isn't good. I'll reserve judgement on it for now and come back to you on it.

Edit. Having looked more closely, I now believe the Deschler is not an original. Sorry.

      Regards
      David

Thanks for the input, it is appreciated.

Can you please let me know what is bad about the Deschler & Sohn cross, is it that it hasn't got domed rivets.

The "Deschler" is definitely not an original one. You are right Mal, it should have the domed rivets instead of this type of rivets you find on the Zimmermann "20" and the barrel hinge mustn't be directly soldered to the rear face of the award.

              Thanks Pierre

Could it be an original award with a replaced Deschler type pin, or is the hole thing fake.

I must agree with Oberlt. Pierre. Your cross has nothing to do with a genuine Deschler, that are very easy to identify. The pictures are not the best, but the silver cross reminds me of products of the firm Steinhauer und Lück. S&L DK are very controversial since a lot of collectors believe that these crosses were produced postwar.

                  Hello

From the front view I can see how you might feel the DKiS may be from S&L. However the back set up is nothing like the S&L. Even if the hinge, pin and catch have all been replaced for some reason, there would be evidence of the recesses that the hinge and catch sat into. On this one there is no visible evidence of the recessed holes being filled in to allow the surface soldered hinge and catch to be attached. The rivets do not appear to be the type normally associated with the S&L DKs either.

Here's the rear view of an S&L DK, (all be it a very early 57 version - but absolutely identical to the wartime produced ones, assuming S&L did make them during the war), for comparison.

Mal, is there any chance of a straight on, full face picture of the front of the DKiS?

                  Regards
                  David

                      David,

you are absolutely right. I forgot to mention that my opinion was only based on the cross' front. The reverse does clearly not speak for S+L.
