Has anyone seen wear on a iron center like this one? The paint has allmost worn away leaving only a little in the center areas, I'd say about 30% left overall. But notice where it's missing, looks allmost like it's blued, still retaining a dark appearance..

"Converted EK 2"
Hi Perry,
Check on page three of this section for, "Converted EK 2" and you will see my cross that shows the same finish. The iron core appears to be "blued" with very small traces of paint. This may have happened due to the conversion. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Dick

Hello Perry,
The frame and core of your cross looks to have been originally lacquered by the factory. What you're seeing is very similar to what happens to "anodised" and lacquered scabbards on early SA and SS daggers that show some wear. The lacquer wears off the areas that are most accessable to handling.
Just some thoughts.

Hello Mr. Floyd
I have the exact thing in an EK 1 - should say had...
It was a very unattractive piece, the matt areas were
quite a bit larger than yours - since it was so ugly, I
said what the heck, and scrubbed it with a toothbrush
and toothpaste, and used my fingernails to remove the
stubborn bits. Had a hairdryer handy for drying.
When I was done, the cross was much improved, did
not look cleaned, only better.
While I would never recommend this to anyone, it did
work for me.
Best Regards,
Phil
