EK I and EKII in wear

Not being a collector of Iron Crosses, I have a question that will probably sound elementary to most here, but I don't know the answer.

If a soldier who was awarded both the EK I and EK II in the First World War, was called up again for service in World War II, would he continue to wear his crosses from the earlier period, or would he wear the type used in WWII? Thanks for any information.

    Hi Don,
No harm in asking any question, thats what the forum is here for!
Basically he would wear his 1914 EKs and if he distinguished himself again and merited the award of the EK from 1939 he would be awarded the Spange (bar).
The second class bar was worn attached to the 1914 ribbon from the button hole or ribbonbar and the first class bar was worn pinned above the first class from 1914 on the left breast.

Adrian, thank you very much for the information. That is exactly what I was looking for. On these forums, someone seems to know everything.

      Best regards,
