German Cross in gold - opnions

    Hello guys,

Please, would like some opnion in this German Cross in gold, the dealer says "Issue in Cupal, comes with 4-hollow-rivets,and weighs 50
gramms. Unmarked, however a typical 'Steinhauer & Lück,
    Lüdenscheid' manufacturing." Is this good?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

It is, without a doubt an S&L DKiG. However, there is much debate as to whether S&L actually made the DK during WW2, or if these are a post war creation by them. There are some very early 57 DKs from S&L which are exactly the same as these - see mine in this thread:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=226945

I personally believe that S&L probably did both, that is made some of these during WW2 and carried on making them after the war, as well as producing a 57 version - as they did with the RK. But, that is just my opinion.

As for the DK shown here, it looks in very good condition, almost mint actually. It does look to me, however, very much like my 57 one. Is your's a WW2 made piece? I honestly don't know. I have been told that with the S&L DKs, if it has no marks it is of war time manufacturer, and if marked '4' it is post war. At the end of day this is a highly contensious area. You need to search the forum for these, read up on them and make your own mind up.

    Regards
    David

Edit: I have just spent a bit of time comparing this one to my 57 version of it, and the more I look, the more convinced I am that this one is probably post war made. Only my opinion though, and as I said before, do some research on these and make your mind up.
