EK2 - maker?

I recently got this EK2. Does anybody know the maker?

It is an unmarked Paulmann & Crone ('86'). I have two which came directly from vets with their packet.

Has this frame been re-soldered, sloppily manufactured, or is that just flash that hadn't been filed off during the finishing process?
I would've passed on this, if it were offered to me, but then again, I always need my EK knowledge expanded...

Indeed, a good match.
The inner corners of my crosse´s frame show the same "cross-hatch" pattern, which is present on your cross.
BTW, this one came directly from the grandson of the vet.

No, it´s not resoldered or sloppy manufactured.
As you can see on the reverse pic the cross is damaged and bend out of shape
in the position where the ring is soldered on. Looks like the result of somebody stepping on it. This is what made the two frame parts come apart in some places.
I wouldn´t have bought it either, but as it was a present...

Of note, Bob, the Paulmann & Crones I have (2) are the crudest crosses I have ever seen. Not only is the detailing of the frame poor, but the construction as well. Even the swasi is way undersized for the frame, both of them. One of the vet p/u's has the frame falling apart - very poorly soldered. And that particular cross still has a wonderful finish to it, so it is not that it was mishandled over the years, no, it was constructed poorly.

It's an original.
I have the same EK II, but I got it with a jewellercase.
I know that this EK II type give it with magnetic and non-magnetic core.
I would say the number design of "3" (backside) is very distinctive.

The maker Paulmann & Crone is a new information for me.

Nothing wrong with the crosses in this thread.

In post #3 you'll see a die characteristic. On the swastika these are short raised 'lines' running parallel with the arms. My other cross has them too, but less distinct. A feature I look for. I have heard from other forum members that Paulmann & Crone purchased their materials for construction of their crosses from other producers/manufacturers, but I have yet to see the same frame or core on other crosses. Maybe the other makers left their crosses unmarked also, I don't know. It has always been a debate/mystery to who made these crosses originally. I have settled it in my mind because of the two vet p/u's I own today.

Beautiful! Another point of interest - some of these crosses have a closed (soldered) ring, while others are left open.

Both of mine are magnetic. The sloppy construction job of my Paulmann & Crone-packeted crosses may simply be due to P&C themselves. Other makers who used the same frames and cores quite probably assembled their crosses with much more attention to detailed finishing. The open and closed rings, the non-consistant finishing gives me reason to believe that these parts and pieces were used by many makers who left their crosses unmarked as well. I have yet to find one with a marked ring, but I haven't seen them all either, no.
