Defintely unique. You'd wonder why he'd replace / solder an entire bottom arm (with catch) when he could merely replce the catch (as in most cases). I guess materials and what's available at the time.

Perhaps the catch held so well it tore or ripped a hole under the plate, requiring a massive repair.
Still a wonderful piece.
