        EK hunter,
I've what I consider to be two "hoard" cased Mayer EK1's. One has the more accepted barrel hinge and the other has the standard block hinge. I have heard that both types were found in the hoard. I don't know it to be the truth or not but the the hoard pieces were supposed to have come in the rectangular type push button case. I picked the last one up on E-stand just this past month and it was FAR less than the $900 figure that is being mentioned.

Sweeeet! I hope to get just one , sooner or later! Glad to know that they came with both pins, this I had heard, but I had never heard that they came with two different type push button cases. Thanks!!! Learn something new every day!

Its also my understanding that the russian hoard '26' cases are of rectangular push button but I can't be 100% sure on that.
            Here's mine which i've had since 1994.

You mentioned that you've had this cross since 1994. I had heard that the Russian hoard pieces were discovered in 1999. Is that incorrect?

                  good old days

It was not that long ago when a descent cased 1st class iron cross went for $225.00 to 250.00? You don't see them now for less than $400.00 to 450.00 cased. Supply and demand I guess. I heard tell of a Russian Horde piece going for $1000.00 somewhere.

I guess the one in question could have been separated from it's case ... but you could always ask why?
                    Darrell-

                    That's a beautiful cross

You are correct. They were discovered in 1999 according to Gordon Williamson's book, ' Iron Cross of 1939 '. Therefore mine is not. It's just a minty cased '26' which is nice to know.

Just received this 26, not sure if it is "Russian Horde". Does it look alright to experts?
