With some who will not change their thinking we'll never have a universal language. But to those who will conform, there is hope. I'm open to any ideas. I agree we do need a universal language. So let's take a poll, and have a count. Let's take twenty or so first responders, and set the vote on that. The thread-starter being the one who counts the votes, and gives the final tally.

I say 'jump ring' for the soldered eyelet,

and, 'suspension ring' for the ribbon ring. 'Suspension loop' for the RK.

    One vote down...

Then we can see how many are in agreement about the parts name in the first place.

It would also serve as the poll because we would see what the majority calls each part of the cross.

I think the need for this is demonstrated in tyhis thread alone where people used the same name and meant completely different parts of the cross. And that was not even from a large sampling of the mambership!

      Hi Sal,
Do you mean, for example, a member with the photoshop skills posting several pics with varying descriptions, numbering each way 1,2,3 etc etc and then everyone voting for a number?
Maybe this can be done as a new thread with a poll at the top to save having to trawl through many different posts to count votes?

No Ade, I meant someone with the photoshop skills to take a picture of an ek2 and one of an rk. Then put circles around the areas on the crosses we are talking about. Then assign a SINGLE number or letter to each of the circles. That way people could say "I call part 1 (circled on the drawing and marked "1") a _____________. "I call part 2 ___________. And so on.

            A Seperate thread is fine.

            Best, Sal

I have to say the lack of interest is abysmal! I would think after 567 views more folks would care about being clear on what was being refered to when viewing rk and ek2 threads.

Why not simply call the parts....CROSS
                RING
                LOOP
                ARM
                CORE
                FRONT
                BACK

When guys try to be 'fancy' and use a (German) term that they are not completely aware of the true meaning, things gat a bit fuzzy.

The old addage of 'KISS'...applies! KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID

That way we are all on the same page!
                Regards,
                Dave

I gave my opinion. It was pretty much blown over.

My interest is still very much alive. Please, someone with an RK and EKII, start this off...for the benefit of all the other members who are reading this...
