    Detlev Update

Attributed DK/G, marked 20. posthumously awarded 9-23-1943. Reasonaly certain he did not aquire it post war,,,,,,,,In my opinion it casts doubt on the mid 1944 appearance of PZX mandated numbers. It may have been made mandatory what was already being done by some but it would seem that the numbers made their appearance much earlier than previously thought. Also there is an attributed 935/4 from October of 1944. seems their are a few attributed sets out there for the 935/4 as well as an earlier set for an 800/4 from Detlev. My question is how many attributed sets have too appear before people will take the 935/800/4s out of the "Maybe post war category". .................Jimmy

If that is what it takes then you just have to wait. There are always 'attributed' groups out there to prove everything. Just refer yourself to Nimmergut - he categorically states that the 935-4 was the 1st model from S&L. Case closed!

Unfortunately some of the 'attributed' groups seem to forget the fact that the B-Type came after the A-Type. Or, more conveniently, just ignore the whole subject of the dies as 'unproven'.

The topic of postwar is not a question of the PKZ-number. Even if the 935-4 and 800-4 would not have the "4" (which other B-Types don't have....) the crosses would still be post A-Type.

If you would to write a book about this subject would you state in writing with your name behind it that the 800-4 are pre 45 because a dealer once said he had an attributed cross? Or what would you say?

I would say that reliable sources as well as US Vet bring backs place this cross no later than 1945. As far as the markings go. It seems to be a major contention of yours that the time for these crosses to have been made and awarded was very short due too the assumption that PZK number were only issued from mid 1944 on. I am only saying that the appearance of the PZK numbers, not the order too use them, may be earlier than we thought. It is my belief that the 935 only was the first post war cross and the same evidence we use too validate other crosses ie. hearsay and known attributions is never applied to the 800/4. By the way I do want a copy of your book when it comes out as I think your research has been in valuable. In effect we are only a few months apart in our conclusions........Kindest Regards Jimmy

Even if that could be verified beyond any doubt - it still is a 1:1.4 chance that the cross is post war! And that is more than 50% by your definition!
