Silver War Merit Cross

I am home from college for the summer, trying to save my collection from becoming a casualty of my parents divorce. Almost everything in my collection has either been passed through the family or given to me by friends/acquaintances. For this reason the items are varied, but mostly Third Reich related. There are a couple earlier acquisitions that I have always questioned so I have decided to post them up for your review. Please give me your opinions and ask questions if needed.
I was given this cross in Germany. The only marking is on the outside of the pin, which I cannot read. Is this an original cross?

Yes, an original late-war zinc War Merit Cross 1st Class made by S&L, marked '4' on pin. The 1st Class (silver) was pinback, and the 2nd class (bronze) hung from a ribbon. The swords denote a combattant award.
