    EK1 Spange L/18- Opinions Please

    Hi !
Can I have your opinion on this 1st Class Spange ?

    Regards.

It's very odd to see the eagle's chest feathers ground down smooth, or is this just a bad shot of the badge?

Here's an unmarked B.H. Mayer for comparison...

I'm not going to say the 'L/18' mark is in the wrong place because I just don't know if others were marked this same way or not.

I know Mayer had two different 1st Class Spange dies...

I don't think anyone could say 100% using these pics. I'd like to see a good straight on shot
But saying that, I'm pretty confident that's it's looking OK. As Robert mentioned the chest feathers look strange, but could just be wear or damage. Everything else looks OK (although the IS the different die to the one Robert shows) Placing of the stamp could be OK too, I've seen ones quite like this, on a slant usually, but same place.
Please show more pics if possible, shaping up to be a nice one hopefully...
      regards

Here is the other. The pebbling in the date bar and around the swasi is a key difference in the two types. Another difference is the size and shape of the heads of the two types. As jon said, straight-on shots would be very helpful. The stamp..you would have to do a search for the stamp 'L/18' to see if the stamps compared. Easy enough.

            jon,

Would you have the obverse view of that badge? This is the hardware for the 'unknown maker' 1st cl. spange.

it looks good in this pics, but this isn't caused by regular wear.

It's a shame they f@cked it up like this.

                    Regards,
                    Ben

sorry Robert I can't find the obverse pic, but this is a known pin for this maker, although not common
                        and
I agree with Ben, shame about the damage, maybe squashed, or a scrape. I'd buy it going by these pics, and I'd be quite happy, but I'd hope the damage would be reflected in the price...

That is too bad it's been 'defeathered' or 'plucked'. It's a nice Mayer. I can't imagine this is due to normal wear; The whole badge would show extreme wear.

                            Hello,

My vote goes for a good example with good reverse hardware and markings. Here is a KvK_1 that I own that shows Mayer did things like this:
