Front. although photographed at a strange angle, looked OK, not so sure after looking at the back, personally never seen a hole in the back of a pin back EKI.
Someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

the hole has now become a point off interest to me, can any body tell me why this is as i havent got a clue

Screw back to pin back?

This is a guess but I'm wondering if this core and frame began life destined to become a screw back but were later utilized to make the pin back we see today. Possibly the hole was where the peg would be seated before being secured in place.
