i have this medal the center came of and was re-clued by its previous owner
can any body shed any light on this
cheers
I don't follow follow the latest on one-piece EKs too closely, so forgive me if this is an old theory, but doesn't this give more weight to the idea that these one-piece 'dimply' EKs are of Spanish manufacture...?
regards

I too believe they are made in Spain, and seeing a ribbon bar like this makes it even more credible.

Amazing jon,
You're right on the money. How rare to find an 'incountry' medal bar with a one-piece Spanish-made Schinkel EKII! A very nice historic collectible.
I have an interest in Spanish/German medal bars & although i am leaning towrds this being a Spanish made Schinkel EKII, the medal bar set up is textbook German. I can't remember seeing a Spanish medal bar made in this way. Just because i haven't seen none obviously doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but my money is on 3 of the medals being Spanish won & awarded, with the 4 years service obviously being awarded when back in Germany & then all 4 being mounted.

But with new german made ribbons? I am just curious, not saying the bar is bad.

Best, Sal
Hi Sal, i know your not saying the bar is bad. I am confused by what Robert means by "in Country" when applied to the medal bar.
Also not sure what you mean when you say "new German made ribbons". I am assuming that the recipient of these medals got awarded 3 of them in Spain with ribbons & the 4th (Wehrmacht 4 yrs) awarded later in Germany, then the medal bar was made up. I would assume that the Spanish (if allowed to make the EKII as we think) would have to be given a stock of EKII ribbons otherwise the recipients would not be able to wear them at the award ceremony.
I wouldn't have thought that the Germans would have made up Spanish ribbons, they would have come back with the medals from Spain with the German recipients.
This is of course just my view based on logic, but when did logic ever work with TR items!

Out of interest, here's what seems to be a typical Spanish made medal bar, as you can see very different from German made ones, they use the normal ribbon for mounting. Pictures supplied by Ramon Sierra.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the Spanish Civil War ended in Apr 39, and the EK was instituted in Sep 39. The Germans designed the Spanish Cross series to regognize merit/bravery for Legion Condor volunteers in Spain. The first EKs would not be awarded until the opening days of WWII for service in Poland.
I misunderstood 'in-country' and assumed this was put together in Spain at some point. But I'm glad it lead to seeing that Spanish-made bar...
and a dunce question:
we're EKs awarded during the civil war? even 'retro awarded'?
regards

I was assuming that Forum members with far more experience than me were correct & was taking their theory that this EKII was Spanish made.
You have indeed such a valid point that we are back to square one, where we started, a very early German made Schinkel.
Jon, good question, i'd like to know that as well.
