What do you think of it ?

I voted 'Yes'. What is the latter day German soldier to be awarded when he carries out an act of gallantry/valour/bravery etc? In the British Army we can still be awarded the Victoria Cross (at least one has been this year in Afghanistan by the Parachute Regiment)) if certain conditions are met - whether we are 'at war' (whatever that is these days) or not.

      Hi!

Your argument is wrong. First: Blood lines do not have anything to do with knowledge. Only and alone the study of German history legitimizes arguments to this topic.
Germany was at present the war of liberation 1813 a foederale union of states and only the Iron Cross of 1813 was a pure prussian award.

Prussia was a part of the empire and cannot not be regarded as an autonomous republic.
The partial state Prussia would alone be not possible and the german empire would not exist without the important state Prussia.
A development to a nation (Germany) was recognizable already at that time.
With the renewal of the donation of the iron cross 1870 the new political conditions were also included. In the preamble of the charter of foundation of the iron cross 1870 was written that also not Prussian citizens can be awarded with the iron cross.
That was very important for the development in the German confederation of states. The iron cross superordinate patriotic symbol of the combination of the German states.
So we can say the fact that the description of the iron cross as a Prussian award do not apply and the high meaning of The Iron Cross does not become fair.
The expansion of the award of the iron cross also on not Prussian soldiers was a full success.
The soldiers of all states in the Empire saw the Iron Cross as THE award, even if there was war merit crosses in their own states.
The argument that the iron cross 1939 was co-opted by Hitler for propaganda purposes is a part of a not provable thesis.
The renewal of the donation of the iron cross 1939 it fulfills all conditions those are necessary. Germany was in a war with many opponents and was therefore in very large danger.
Independently of it as one thinks over the third reich must one recognize that the donation of the iron cross was absolutely legitimate.

My personal opinion is that we are at war. It’s not a war like WW2 with clear visible enmies. Therefore I think it’s a new sort of war, even if we don't recognize it till now.
In these days we need national leaders they act correctly in this situation. If we want to win this war we need we 100% motivated soldiers. Such soldiers need idols (Heroes). Heroes those are highly decorated. In the case of Germany therefore the renewal of the iron cross would be the accurately correct measure.

      Regards
      Andreas
