GC's - Silver and Gold Zimmermans?

    Hello,
Not having had the pleasure of handling many of these, I'm not sure it they are good or belong in the pile of shame. Your thoughts would be appreciate.

    Thanks,

    Duane

I like the DKiS. Looks good IMO . The DKiG I think is ok but I would like to have a closer look at the date. Also, does the DKiG have a markers mark?

      Hello

The DKiS is, in my opinion, a good original example of a Zimmermann lightweight DKiS.

As for the DKiG, could you please post some good shots of it, in the same manner as the DKiS ones.

      Regards
      David

        More photos added..

Thank you for the help. I've added a close up of the gold "1941" and a clasp shot. My friend has had these in his collection for a long time. He was worried when he heard about the Zimmerman fakes. Thanks much.

          Hello

Thanks for the additional photos. In my opinion the DKiG is also a good, original Zimmermann light, displaying the traits that I would expect to see.

For comparision, here is a shot of my lightweight Zimmermann, which has been given a universal 'thumbs up' both here and on other forums.

          Regards

Both are original crosses. it is a real shame someone had the need to polish the area behind the swastika and ruin the finish on the original badges.

I think the DKIG is a silver one with the wash polished off. It looks like the remains are in the resessed areas,

These have been faked to almost perfection so caution is a prudent thing.

At this point, I'd like to point out an observation on the second example:

The wreath is heavily worn, yet the blackened star-burst is immaculate... doesn't that seem wrong?

                        Richard,
The wreath, worn yes, but heavily? Not any more or less than Davids IMO. It may have been polished few times and hence the dullness. I think the condition overall is constant. The black sunburst has got chips on the ends. The weight would be the next thing I would check if still in doubt.

From the photo, yes I would say 'heavily'. It looks to be down to base metal. If you want to compare with David's example, you can see how yellow-golden his is, while the other is dull and brassy looking.

                            Hello

Given the obvious cleaning of the DKiG that has taken place, I would suggest that the wreath may be the victim of an over enthusiastic (previous) owner trying to 'restore' the crosses former brilliance. I know that these have now been faked to virtual perfection, but from what I can see both of these DKs display the attributes on the wreath, date and darkened star that I would expect to see on an original lightweight Zimmerman.

Of course, if the forgers have finally managed to perfect the fakes of these, how then would we know or tell the difference ? Not a pleasant thought at all.

                            Regards
                            David

I would also like to see a better shot of the date on the second cross.
I looks a little weird to mee.
