I have not been a member of this forum for long, but I have been collecting TR medals on and off for about 17 years. One of my first medals was an EK1 with makers mark and a rounded 3.
As I began to buy reference material in the way of books I could not find any reference to a rounded 3, the books in question were by Christopher Ailsby (think that’s how it’s spelt), Adrian Forman and a few others. If my memory serves me well I can not recall there being any mention of a round 3 EK1 or 2.
Totally devastated that I had spent my money on what I thought was junk I went to every fair in my area to try and find the dealer I had bought this from to get money back or some explanation, but with no luck I threw the badge away.
A while back I sold on a lot of my collection and all reference books I had. Since returning to collecting and now using the internet more to gather my pieces, I have noticed more and more the rounded 3 being offered by dealers.
What I am trying to ask here is what books give reference to these pieces, are there war time pictures of awards being worn. And do I need to invest in a metal detector and spend my time of knee deep in others junk at the local land fill sites in the hope of a very lucky find.
I am also not trying to poo poo these pieces as I remember liking what I had until I could find no reference in my books, as all the pictures were of the normal 3. Or was I just missing that all important book?
