          Hi Robert
Keen eye, In close examination this looks like a pig in the poke. The cross with the hump frame without the scrunched bead @ 2:30 o:clock appears to be a #100 in a 109 PACKET. Although It was advertised as an Iron Cross in a mm Henlein packet, Half right I guess. I never questioned it until know.

"Will the real '109' please stand up?"

Remember the old 'To tell the Truth' show?

Here's another set just let go on Detlev's site yesterday...a mint W&L cross with a Maurer Oberstein packet. Maurer Oberstein? I know of a Carl Oberstein '74', and Julius Oberstein '138'. But there must be a Maurer too as the packet indicates. But the point is, the W&L cross does not match...

                  Perhaps a distributor vs. producer/maker?

Like Forfter & Graff, huh? OK. Something to consider. Odd.

                    Thanks Hank,

It's normal that other EK II's (with maker or not) are in EK II packets (with another maker like the EK II's).

On enfranchisements ceremonies you got only the EK II or EK I (not the packet or case). If you have more than one or two soldiers to enfranchisements ceremonies you make only the awards on the awards-pillow.
After ceremonies the soldiers go to the "Kompaniefeldwebel/Spieß" (companie sergeant) to inscribe the award in the Soldbuch or Wehrpass then you could get the packet or case, if you want it.
It's a good method that the soldiers get the awards in the wehrpass or soldbuch.
If your battalion get's 20 EK II's and 10 EK I's by different maker's it's possible that you get a packet or case by another maker like your EK.

I'm a soldier and in missions (SFOR,KFOR and EUFOR RD CONGO) I used the same method ;-)
Our awards are by Steinhauer & Lück, but if we have two or more maker's, we have the same problems.

                          Regards

Beautiful cross Hank! I've searched had trying to find that maker in my 'nest', but turned up empty-handed. A very nice cross indeed. Love the finish on this piece.

Grueni, sounds like a logical scenario, if that indeed is what really took place. So, as luck would have it, some just got the right packet....

Some large range of crosses found in these packets ,
My mid to late war W&H packet had this EK2 in it that is different from the ones already posted .
