At the risk of derailing your thread fairly early on, it might be worth remembering that a discrepancy in the dimensions (or even the weight) of an item that was fairly extensively hand finished - as the Ubergrosse is - would not indicate a different manufacturer was involved.... merely that the rim was finished off more vigorously by the particular craftsman.
Only a different core or frame would truly indicate more than one manufacturer and I am fairly certain that has been ruled out.
