    EK2 mm125/ring repair

    Hello,

I would like some opinions on this ring, which is maker marked 125. There is a large bulge next to mm, possible ring repair or ring replacement? Also, heavy stamping from makers mark, causing flatness to the reverse.

    Thanks,
    Tony

      Hello

I don't have anything to reference this against, and I've never personally had or examined a '125'. That said, I wouldn't to much about the bulge in the ring. I have seen this on a few perfectly good, original EKs. It's where the ring has been soldered together and a little to much solder has been applied. As for the ring stamp itself, I can see from the photo showing the flattening why you may think it's something done at a later date to 'enhance' the value of what might otherwise be a 'run of the mill' EK. It might be this, or it might be just a badly applied stamping by a tired or disinterested employee.

      Regards
      David

Edit. I've just searched the forum and found this thread. This one may be a '125'. Have a look and see if it matches yours.

        Hello

For comparison JerryW posted a maker marked '125' in this thread:

If you go to the thread when logged onto the forum his posting is on page 3. I hope this is of some help.

        Regards
        David

          Hi Tony,
I'm not convinced the makers mark says '125'. To me the last digit looks like the bottom half of an '8'. If you take a look at the '128' on the Iron Cross 2nd class main page you will see one which also has the flattened area behind the stamp, the beading looks a fairly good match as well. Can you post a close up of it please and also some pics of the entire cross?

Let's see if this comes out any clearer.
I'm not sure either, it was my best guess.

I enlarged the makers mark slightly so hopefully it will be easier to see but if you look at the bottom of the last digit, where you would expect to see a gap if it was a '5', it is completely joined as an '8' might be.

                Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the enhancement Davis thanks for your input also. I do believe it's 126 Eduard Hahn Oberstein/Nahe. I did a search on 128 and it does not look like this one:

                http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107906&highlight=128

                More like this one:

                Thanks,
                Tony

Can we see the entire EK, front and back?

Reverse. (I don't see any dissimilarities between this EK and Tony's.)

                            Maker mark.
This is one of the hardest to determine maker marks that I have seen. In fact, the main reason I call this a "125" is more because I don't think it's another similar number ( i.e. "123", "126", "128") than that I can positively say it's "125".
