    Case german Cross in Silver

    Hello,

Please if it possible to any person confirm me if it is possible that in a case of German Cross in Silver the outer side of the lid is in Gold and not in Silver, It is very important to know is it is correct or no ??????

    Thanks a lot.

There should be a silver band instead of a gold one.

      Helo Don,

Thank you for your anserw, I bougt a very good medal of " 20 " German Cross in Siver with case but when I recived it of the dealer I ssaw that the lid is in gold and I am very surprise, Do you think that this point give to the set a low price ?????

The dealer confirm me that see never look a " 20 " with the lid in Silver and only posibility in the beginin of the War.

      Thanks a lot

        Dear Ramon,

From our earliest readings as collectors we are taught that German Crosses in Gold should come in cases with gold borders and that the Silver Crosses should, correspondingly, be in a case with a silver border. I would tend to agree with this on the 1s (Deschlers) but would differ in opinion with Don in regards to the cased Silver 20s (Zimmermann).

From my personal experience in examining many cased crosses (both silver and gold) and from correspondence with some of my friends who have more advanced collections than my own; I, and they, have noted that the cased Silver 20s almost always are in a case with a gold border. This does not hold true for the 1s, as all of the cased Silver 1s I have seen/examined are encased in a case with a silver border.

Additionally, if you compare the lower flocking interior of the 20 to that of a 1 or 134 you will note some slight differences in the material in the recessed area for the pin - flocking like material versus pebbled leather like material.

As to why Silver 20s seem to come in cases with gold borders.....perhaps shortage of materials, disregard for regulations...who knows.

        Hope this helps.

I am not an expert and will defer to others on this. I only know that the gold cross case was supposed to have a gold band and the silver cross a silver band.

I concur with Gary on this one. Don't know why that is so but that what it seems to be.

              Hello guys,
Here is something that I know a little about and I agree with you. All of the silver DKs by Zimmermann that I have seen and have owned (I have always preferred the silver to gold DKs), have come in cases with a gold borders.

              The earlier DKs did not.

              Regards,
              Jody

...Hi this is an easy one.

If you have a Deschler German Cross in silver in a silver border case, you are oké.

If you have a Zimmermann German Cross in silver in a silver border case, you have two pieces that don't belong together! Because the Zimmermann German Crosses , gold or silver are ALWAYS in a gold border cases....don't ask me why, it's just like that.

                Pieter.

Btw, mine (silver 20) is in the correct "gold" border case
