        Hello Polynike!

The ribbon bar looks 100% original. I will give you a good advice as I have bought a lot of ribbons on eBay and done different experiences . There are many different backsides on these ribbons and they are fixed in different ways - some with cloth and sewing, some with metal plates. Contact seller and ask for a picture of the other side as well, and soon you will find your own favourite type of ribbon

        Good luck!

        Best regards
        Marius

Jonathan, this medal was very very common, more than 6 million of this type awarded. Named after Hindenburg. upon whose instructions they were awarded from 1933 onwards.
There are 3 types, this type, for front line soldiers (also known as the Front Fighters Honour cross) A next of kin cross with a different colour ribbon and no swords and a widows cross, in black with no swords.

As I said, they are very common, with loads for sale on ebay at any time.

Combatants Cross of Honor Cross 1914/1918

            Polynike

The Combatant’s Cross of Honor was issued in July 1934 by Paul von Hindenburg to recognize service in WWI. Thus the reason it is often referred to as the Hindenburg Honor Cross. In order of precedence it ranked beneath awards for bravery, but above service and campaign awards.

You can find these as solo pins (sometimes with metal or wool backing) and as part of ribbon bar sets.

Non-Combatant crosses did not have swords, while the Next of Kin award had a black wash. Also, the next of kin award had a different ribbon !
