It just stands for 'unmarked'. I label all of my crosses whether they're marked or unmarked.
Robert
Just to play the devil's advocate, why not label it U L/11?

Don't take me serious here, but I marked it U3 because the blue packet didn't have the LDO stamp on it's reverse. I have an LDO-stamped Forfter and Graff packet with my other U3, so I should put the L/11 with it.
Robert,
That is one fine aquisition of crosses for the New Year. Is the Souval marked?
Chet
Yes, it is marked '98'. The 2nd of (2) that I have now which are marked. I have not come across any other unmarked crosses with the Souval frame, although I know I will in time.
Here are some photos of this textbook Souval, one of my favorites now. The '1939' to the far right, and the non-soldered reverse side of the suspension loop. Textbook all the way.
