          Thanks

Thanks for that . I also have over 100 pages of research on the medals owner who went through the whole war and ran out of petrol in 1945 fighting around the Dresden to Berlin Railway line in what was left of the 2nd Panzer Regiment. Allthough he got this Gold cross for fighting on the russian front , he also survived the falaise Pocked , then onto operation Nortwind and the last major offensive of WW11 when the germans recaptured Lauban.

They ran out ammunition and the remaining fuel was given out where Major Wilhelm Gottberg drove to the american area and was captured by them

          He died in 1976 .

I had it for ages and i just wanted to make sure i haven't got all this documentation to the wrong medal (ie a fake)as i see this all the time.

The box is not original to it as i found this later as i wanted to complete it. However i do have the original box that his wife kept the gold cross in.

              Hello,

A most impressive cross; too bad about the enamel damage. Did you get this item directly from him, perhaps you asked him when the engraving was done and for what reasons?

                      Hi

Thats also an interesting thread be nice if other people could put there atributed medals on as well to this thread as i find linking a person and actual history to a medal the nicest reward.
